A video game in which every time you die your injured limbs and body parts are replaced by machines and you slowly become less and less human until the point in which you have no human body parts left and you must decide whether you will continue to fight for humanity of which you have no connection left with

Based on this tumblr post, I think It would be interesting for our characters to become more and more 'Other' or similar to the denizens of the desert Otherworld (hell dimension) each time they are seriously injured and heal. By the time they have discovered a way to destroy the oncoming dimension before both their dimension and the hell dimension merge, they have become more similar to the demonic denizens of the hell dimension than they are to the people in their original dimension.

They would have to decide wether to destroy an entire dimension of people that are similar to them, or to allow humanity to die.
